Honestly, the actors seem too polished and pretty for the characters they have been cast for. Maybe it’s just me but I imagined a lot more awkwardness and a lot more raw power.

Then again, I read these when I was in high school so maybe I don’t remember it properly. Also, actors are, by definition, pretty and polished, so there’s that.

well, these *are* headshots & such, and not exactly character pics (I tried looking and couldn’t really find any. Saoirse is the only one of the bunch that is super famous and has lots of pictures on the net).

I do agree that Lydia Bewley in particular is probably too beautiful to play Tris who, to my memory, isn’t described as particularly attractive in the books.

also, Tris is plump. She should be portrayed by a plus size actress, because tehre are no  female protaganists in movies that are plus-sized.

Thanks for the feedback. a couple of things, though:

Rami Malek is not white, his ethinicity is Egyptian. I would never fan cast a white actor as a POC character.

 Also, body photos of Lydia Bewley like these:

show that she is indeed ‘plus sized’ (though I understand it can be hard to tell from head shots alone)

I agree with the hope that If a series is ever made of the books, the producers will stick to making Briar a POC and Tris plus sized.

I guess It’s just fun to find actors close to your mental pictures of the characters, and it’s just a given not everyone’s pictures will match up.
