Tortall Fancast: Keith Allen as Kyprioth
Okay I know that Kyprioth is supposedly modeled after Bruce Coville, but Keith Allen as the Sheriff of Nottingham in BBC’s Robin Hood just had such a Kyprioth vibe to me. And tbh I kinda have a problem with Kyprioth being white anyway, I mean I think that the patron god of the Copper Isles should maybe be Raka, or at least resemble the indigenous people of the nation a little, you know? But in the book his race is never really mentioned; he’s described as “a lean and wiry man with a beard. He has large brown eyes. His salt-and-pepper hair—with more salt than pepper—is short and his nose is short and broad. He has eyebrows shaped in pointed arches.” (taken from the TP wiki)
But yeah, let me know what you think.
I… I always assumed Kyprioth was raka.
I actually went back and re-read the books because I wanted to double check, and it’s more like he’s raka sometimes, and luarin sometimes, kind of depending on his mood. I think that’s quite fitting.
“a lean and wiry man with a beard. He has large brown eyes. His salt-and-pepper hair—with more salt than pepper—is short and his nose is short and broad. He has eyebrows shaped in pointed arches.”
Though Kyprioth is a shape-shifter, his primary form is that of a wiry, ‘middle aged’ Raka man. So, if this is meant to be a fan-cast for his primary form, then it is whitewashing. Also, and maybe I need a re-read, but I don’t recall any of his forms in particular being Lurian (Possession aside, and please correct me if I’m wrong)
I (recently) was told that the Copper Isles were inspired by Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia.
Given this information, which I don’t know if the OP was aware of (if not, yay for learning! if they knew and don’t care, well…), let’s break this down:
So, if ten minutes of Google brought me all these desi/polynesian/pinoy etc dudes

(Don’t tell me you can look at this guy and not see Kyprioth)
including Sharukh Khan, who I honestly think was born to play the role

And given that if you look, there are literally lists of (disclaimer:mostly) brown actors of various ethnicities again, via the almighty Google (shout-out to IMDB)
The end result is this fan-cast comes off a bit…narrow.
thus endeth the lesson: I just think peeps should be a bit more careful before fan-casting white actors in cannon non-white roles.
we all know how that goes irl
(never forget)
ETA: Personally, this guy reminds me of Sir Myles of Olau
